Basketball Play - Communication Drill: 50 Passes

Communication Drill: 50 Passes

Matt Wheeler 11/19/2018

50 passes is a competitive team drill that focuses on ball toughness, passing, screening and communication. The goal of 50 passes is to be the first team to successfully complete 50 passes without getting the ball deflected and having the passer say the name of the person they are passing to. Eliminating dribbles after the first pass increases the pressure that the defense can put on the offense, making it more difficult to complete the passes. Requiring the passer to say the name of the receiver helps to build good communication habits while under duress. Basketball Play - Drake Bulldogs - Veer Ghost

Drake Bulldogs - Veer Ghost

Matt Wheeler 03/22/2021

Drake ran this play late in the first half to get their best driver, Joseph Yesufu, an opportunity to attack the paint. 5 makes a decoy action by faking the screen and running back to the baseline on the weakside. This puts him in position for a potential pass for a layup on the drive or an offensive rebound. When 4 sets a ghost screen for 1 this clears the lane for 1 to drive to the basket. It also can give a moment of hesitation for the defense because they don't know if a real screen will happen and they need to provide help or switch on it. Basketball Play - LA Lakers - ICE Defense 3-on-3 Drill

LA Lakers - ICE Defense 3-on-3 Drill

Ryan Nguyen 08/18/2018

Continuity defensive drill from Luke Walton and the Los Angeles Lakers from their 2016 Training Camp. This drill works on side pick and roll defense where the defense looks to Ice/Blue/Push/Down, depending on your terminology. The on ball defender adjusts their stance to be on the top of hip of the ball handler. Goal is to prevent the ball handler from using the ball screen to get to the middle, keeping the ball on the sideline/baseline on the pass and follow action. On the throwback to the screener, the on ball defender works for a lock and trail. See video below diagram for more. See More

Basketball Play - UNO Shooting Drill

UNO Shooting Drill

Joel Hueser 09/06/2016

We are big fans of a UNO shooting drill Coach Derrin Hansen (@DerrinHansen) shared with us almost ten years ago. Throughout the course of the summer and fall many of our players will do this drill 2-3 times a week if not more. When it's all said and done, each player will have made 100 field goals. The workout can be finished in 20-25 minutes depending on age, skill level and intensity. We like the variety of game-like conditions presented in this workout: shooting, passing and rebounding.
