Basketball Play - 3FTC Close-Out 3on2, 2on1

3FTC Close-Out 3on2, 2on1

Greg White 09/28/2012

This is a great drill to instill in your players how and when transition offense begins: with a rebound. The drill starts with 2 offense players and 3 defenders. The Coach passes to an offensive player who either (1) shoots a 3 or (2) shot fake and drive. Multiple things can be worked on just at this point. Shooting under pressure, close out, help on basket drive and offensive players attacking off dribble. Once the defense is in control of the ball, the drill is 3 on 2 to the other end. Whichever player shoots the basketball comes back as the defender in a 2 on 1 scenario. The two remaining players "trail" the play and become the two offensive players with the next group. See More

Basketball Play - Back Screen with Side Ball Screen & Double Screen

Back Screen with Side Ball Screen & Double Screen

Basketball HQ 02/08/2013

This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. For this play your point guard has to be able to shoot off of a double screen or you can run your best shooter at the point for this play like the Rockets did with Kevin Martin. Your player has to read the defense on the back screen he can use a UCLA cut or a back cut depending on how the defense is playing him. Who ever you have coming off of the ball screen has to be able to handle the ball and make the decision to see the 4 man popping and the 1 man coming off of the double screen. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan State- Elbow Ball Screen

Michigan State- Elbow Ball Screen

Jake Presutti 04/02/2014

Michigan State ran this Elbow Ball Screen set in their win against Harvard in the NCAA Tournament. The first option of the set is guard Gary Harris coming off down screen. The next option is Denzel Valentine who comes off a backscreen, looking for a pass at the basket. The final option is a ball screen where the 4 (Branden Dawson) sets a high ball screen for Gary Harris. Dawson rolls automatically to the basket but its up to Harris to drag the screen until Dawson is open at the basket. See More

Basketball Play - Zipper Triple Flare

Zipper Triple Flare

Adam Spinella 07/16/2013

This year the Washington Wizards didn't have a successful win-loss percentage, but when their best lineup was in healthy, their offense was very potent. Coach Randy Wittman used the "Zipper Triple Flare" as an action to free up his shooters on the perimeter and give John Wall the ability to read the play both with and without the ball. See More

Basketball Play - Sideline Omaha

Sideline Omaha

NHSBCA NHSBCA 11/26/2012

1 screens for 2 to receive inbounds pass. 2 passes to 1 shaping up as 4 screens down for 3. 1 hits 3 on wing for shot. If 3 doesn't have the shot, 4 lane screens for 5 and 1 flare screens for 2. 3 can hit 2 for the shot. If the flare is not open, 3 looks to feed 5 in the post. 5 sets a side ball screen for 3. 3 can reject the screen and attack baseline (4 spaces to weak side corner) or use the screen (4 circles to ball side corner) and look for the roll or a shooter circling right. Basketball Play - Broncos Triple

Broncos Triple

Dana Beszczynski 02/21/2014

Coach Kerry Keating showed the diversity of the Broncos offensive sets in their game against BYU. This nice triple stagger screen action gives the PG a chance to really read what the best option is as the STS action sets up a post-up situation on either side of the floor. See More

Basketball Play - 200 Point Shooting

200 Point Shooting

FastModel Sports 10/01/2012

This is a great partner shooting drill you can use to foster competition and get a lot of shots up. Any number of players can participate depending on time available and records can be kept for total points as well as wins and losses. A very good drill to end a difficult practice with since players will get a lot of shots up while tired. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle Down

Triangle Down

Kyle Gilreath 10/24/2013

The Miami Heat ran this action versus the Pelicans Wednesday night to get Chris Anderson an easy dunk at the rim. As 1 was screening for 3, the defense became very oppupied with defending Wade (not seeing the ball). Furthermore, X2 and X5 did not communicate and both ended up on 2, leaving 5 wide open rolling to the rim with no helpside. See More

Basketball Play - Green Bay

Green Bay

John Leonzo 05/16/2013

Here is another play that is run frequently by Greg McDermott at Creighton. This set play is unique because it is run from a 2-3 high set with 1 and 2 at top so that 2 can eventually receive the stagger screen later in the play (this can be done out of a 4-out 1-in set by having the trailing big exchange with the weak side guard). This is a great way for you to get your team opportunities for easy 2's or a 3 pointer from the top of the key. See More

Basketball Play - 3FTC 6 on 4 Shell Drill

3FTC 6 on 4 Shell Drill

Greg White 09/02/2012

If you're like me Shell drill is a staple of your daily defensive preparation. The thing I hated was when working on defending baseline you had to tell the on ball defender to let his man beat him. Well not anymore. Use this drill to work on baseline penetration without letting him beat one the ball defender. See More
