Basketball Play - Four-Man Break

Four-Man Break

Alan Peel 09/10/2013

This drill is designed to teach primary break by getting players to fill lanes and get the ball up the floor quickly by passing it. If you need to make sure that your players run wide, you can place cones seven feet from the sideline at half court. Basketball Play - Three-Man Weave Drills

Three-Man Weave Drills

Alan Peel 09/08/2013

I have had great success in using this drill as a way to get my players warmed up and for team-building purposes. The players must make a specified number of lay-ups before moving on to the next stage (from five passes to four passes to three passes to being done). For a lay-up to be considered to be "made", the ball must not touch the floor at any time and the lay-up must be shot with the proper hand. Make absolutely sure that your players are catching the ball with their feet in the air and coming to a jump stop. This will prevent them from developing bad habits by traveling with the ball. Basketball Play - Davidson - Stagger

Davidson - Stagger

Adam Spinella 09/08/2013

Bob McKillop and the Davidson Men's Basketball Team run this as one option in their 4-out motion offense as a quick option out of transition. This play has the featured action of a downscreen for the big man, whom McKillop has featured frequently as a good shooter over the past few seasons. If there is a stretch shooting big man on your team, this is a nice set to get him coming off a downscreen. See More

Basketball Play - France Transition Curl

France Transition Curl

Dana Beszczynski 09/07/2013

France ran a number of sets in their Championship Game match-up against Lithuania looking to isolate Diaw in the post. This was a nice set run with a twist as the 5 man sets a timed screen-the-screener action on 2 who reading the defense curls into the lane for a short pull-up jumper. France played so well together and got contributions from everyone in their Offense during their Championship run. See More

Basketball Play - Big Pin StS

Big Pin StS

Adam Spinella 09/06/2013

Today's Play of the Day is a transition option from Fred Hoiberg and the Iowa State Cyclones for a stretch shooting big man. Hoiberg ran this set coming out of transition for his forward Georges Niang, particularly against Kansas and Jef Withey, who was exceptionally poor at defending on the perimeter. This action fits well into Hoiberg's overall motion offense, which is strongly perimeter-based. His general pattern of offense has been dubbed basketball's version of the "Spread Offense". See More

Basketball Play - Wheels (SLOB)

Wheels (SLOB)

Adam Spinella 09/06/2013

In late game situations when you need a three pointer, Wheels is a good double screen set that frees up your shooter. When 1 comes off a double ball screen, he has room to stretch out the play on the perimeter, which allowed the double pindown to open up a shooter. 3 is the designed shooter in this scenario.
