Basketball Play - NBA Closeout Drill

NBA Closeout Drill

Kyle Gilreath 10/16/2013

I saw this drill last week while watching the 2013 NBA Real Training Camp. The drill in frame 1 is how the Brooklyn Nets were shown performing this drill. The variation in Frame 2 came from the LA Clippers. I typically have my players circle the wagons during any live 5-on-5 action that starts in the half-court, but this drill is a great simulation to work on closing out at various angles during scramble situations. Basketball Play - High Post Entry with Fake Hand Off / Backdoor

High Post Entry with Fake Hand Off / Backdoor

Basketball HQ 10/16/2013

This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. This play is best for teams with a passing big. You are running this play for your best shooter or scorer and your point guard. You will need to drill with your players on how to come off a hand off, and how to have your bigs read the defense to make the fake hand off. This is a great action for teams with a point guard that will be over played on the hand off. See More

Basketball Play - Elbow Back Triple

Elbow Back Triple

Kyle Gilreath 10/11/2013

This is an offensive set that Bill Self's Kansas Jayhawks ran in the 2012 National Championship game. I love this play because of the numerous scoring options tha are very simple to teach your players to run. To see EVERY play Kansas ran in the 2012 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - 13 Hawk Down

13 Hawk Down

Kyle Gilreath 10/03/2013

I love catching old (if you consider last season old) games on NBAtv and trying to find some new plays to share with my readers. Last night I watched a few minutes of a New York Knicks Playoff game. I loved this action because it involved a big screening a guard into a pick & roll taking screen the screener a step further. See More

Basketball Play - Maverick Flare

Maverick Flare

Al Baker 10/03/2013

This is a play from the Dallas Mavericks' playbook. Obviously they've got a 4 that can shoot it, but personnel can be adjusted based on who you want getting the basketball. In any case, the action pulls the bigs away from the basket and clears out the weak side of the floor, giving your 4 the option to shoot or drive to the rim. See More

Basketball Play - Slovenia Box 1

Slovenia Box 1

Dana Beszczynski 10/03/2013

Slovenia's focal point of their offense during this year's European Championship was Goran Dragic who plays in the NBA for the Phoenix Suns. This is a simple box set and with good reading by the 4 man before 1 cuts into the lane, he attacks the open side drawing the foul. A good isolation set for a stronger player who can post-up and take advantage of a good match-up. See More

Basketball Play - 45 Ballscreen

45 Ballscreen

Adam Spinella 10/02/2013

This ballscreen set was run last season by the Hawks with great success. Al Horford set great screens for Josh Smith at the elbows, and with Smith's rare ability to drive and dish from the forward position, the alley oop was so tough to stop. See More
