Basketball Play - 10-11 Houston Rockets - Horns Action with Ball Screen and Backdoor

10-11 Houston Rockets - Horns Action with Ball Screen and Backdoor

Basketball HQ 03/13/2013

For this play to work, your 2 has to be able to handle the ball off of a ball screen, and your 4 has to be a passing skilled big that can pick and pop. After 2 dribbles off of the ball screen and passes to 4 he has to be patient to let his defender fall asleep. Once his defender turns his head, the 2 cuts hard backdoor for a lay up. This play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. See More

Basketball Play - Brooklyn ditches ISO-Joe on a game-deciding play

Brooklyn ditches ISO-Joe on a game-deciding play

Mark Travis 02/22/2013

The majority of Joe Johnson's clutch shots for the Nets this season have come on the infamous ISO-Joe plays that made Johnson's Atlanta Hawks' teams a bit of an eye sore on offense. To Johnson's credit, he's been remarkably efficient in one-on-one situations late in games this year, and he even hit the game-winner later in this game on an isolation possession. But down three with 6.7 seconds left in the game against the Milwaukee Bucks the other night, P.J. Carlesimo went away from ISO ball and drew up a beautiful elevator screen sequence to get Johnson a wide open look at a three from the top of the key. Unphased by the moment, Johnson executed his cut perfectly and he got good screens from his teammates, allowing him to tie things up and send the game to overtime. Video of this play. See More

Basketball Play - Sweep

Sweep

Alan Peel 08/19/2013

"Sweep" is a secondary break play run by several teams including Colorado and Harvard. This play is based on the North Carolina approach to secondary break offense made popular by Dean Smith and Roy Williams. It can be run if you do not have players athletic enough to run the Carolina break for the lob dunk and can be run into any kind of a three-around-two offense. Basketball Play - Rondo

Rondo

Brandon Mullis 07/14/2013

This is a quick hitter that we used to run several seasons ago. It was called "Rondo" for Rajon Rondo of the Boston Celtics, who ran some similar actions. This set could be used as a quick-hitting set to flow into your normal offense, or it is also good action that could also be used at the end of quarter/half/shot clock. See More

Basketball Play - Point Clear

Point Clear

Randy Brown 05/15/2013

This play is designed to clear the middle of the floor for your point guard or best scorer. Double stacks create a set play look initially. 2 and 3 flatten out to the corners to draw defenders. As dribbler begins penetration, 2 and 3 read their defender. If help is given, 2 and 3 slide up to receive pass. If no help is shown they stay flat. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - 3 on 3 actions (5)

3 on 3 actions (5)

null null 10/30/2013

We use these actions to prepare for teams that use 1-4 High sets. Teams in our area run "butt screens", screen the screener looks with down screens and flare screens. This is a good drill for coaches to specifiy how they want to defend these actions commonly seen in games. See More

Basketball Play - UCLA Floppy

UCLA Floppy

Kyle Gilreath 04/03/2014

In the 1st half of their 2014 Sweet 16 matchup with Michigan, the Tennessee volunteers ran this floppy action to get a lay-up at the rim. 1 curled the stagger and was able to get into the rim on the bounce and finish for an and-1. If 1 isn’t able to curl into the lane, a third option is to feed Stokes (5) ducking in hard on the block after screening. See More
