Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a quick hitter that Kentucky coach John Calipari often runs out of ATO situations. The Wildcats ran it to open the Champions Classic game vs Duke in the video below. On the FMS Blog: Gap Creating Cuts to Enhance Your Offense See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a way to incorporate a dribble drive attack into your zone offense. Using a wing dribble entry, we shift the defense to the ball side, then set a backside ball screen to create a 2/1 on the backside. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is one of the options that the Memphis Grizzlies run out of their "Shuffle" series. The play starts with the PG making the hit-ahead pass then cuts through to the opposite side of the floor. 5 then flashes to the strong side elbow to set a shuffle screen after the pass to the corner. If the initial cut off the shuffle screen isn't available for a score, 4 sets a flare for 2 on the weak side then 3 sets a rip screen for 4 (STS action). Immediately after the rip screen, 3 sprints into a DHO with 5 and stops behind for a shot if defense goes under. On the FMS Blog: Gap Creating Cuts to Enhance Your Offense See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawIowa State used this set against to get a ball screen set for the 2. We use it after running Horns Slam to get an easy look for our 2 off of the double screen. We just call it "Again." We almost always get a great look after running it in sequence. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis horns set was by Iowa State in the 2013 NCAA tournament and is a quick hitter for a 5, using a back screen for a layup. It works on either side of the court. This action creates pick/roll, pick/pop, and drive/kick opportunities. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOverloading against a zone can be overwhelming for the defense. Indiana coach Archie Miller uses these two overload actions to create a 1 on 1 matchup with his bigs vs the middle of the zone. 1: In the first video clip, the wing defender is confused on who to cover and leaves the corner wide open. 2: In the last clip, the wing tries to split the wing and corner offensive player, leaving a 1 on 1 in the post, which is exactly what the Hoosiers are looking for. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great set from Gonzaga Coach Mark Few. It appears that 5 is sprinting into a ball screen, but actualy will recieve the pass and look to hit the guard cutting backdoor. If 5 is overplayed, this is a great backdoor opportunity for him as well. If the backdoor cut is not there, then everyone holds and 5 has a double gap to drive his man from the top of the key. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great set with some very smooth misdirection to shift the defense out of position before the ball screen and reversal, leaving the post defender sealed underneath the rim. On the FMS Blog: NCAA Preseason Top 25 XsOs - Teams 1-5 See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great set that we have seen many NBA teams run, namely the Cleveland Cavaliers utilizing LeBron James as the screner. T he proximity to the rim and the pace with which Kansas runs it makes it even tougher for the defenders to talk their way through defending this action. I love that the Jayhawk bigs casually jog down before popping back up the lane lines quickly to start the defense out of step. On the FMS Blog: NCAA Preseason Top 25 XsOs - Teams 1-5 See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis may not be the most innovative set, but it is the essence of good offense: get your best player the ball in spots where he/she can be effective. Duke will flash Reddish or Williamson to the elbow extended area and space off of him. They are trusting in their decision making, but also trusting that regardless of the defense knowing exactly what is coming they will find a way. The worst thing you can do to elite players is neutralize their skill by running them through aimless sets. As quickly as possible, get your best player the ball in their spot. For those of us that don't have 5 lottery picks on our roster, I added a wrinkle to the last frame that might serve you well with some split action around the catch. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is great action to get a spread ball screen with lots of midline movement, and then also a chance for a deep post up. Kansas opened up its Champions Classic game vs Duke with this set, and runs this with great pace and execution, however it is well defended by the Blue Devils. A key point is the skip pass before the post entry. If the help side defender is tagging on the post, then skip and immediately enter the ball like Kansas does.
