For notes on Spread Ball Screen vs. 2-3 Zone when heading into the Double Side...
In Spread Ball Screen vs. 2-3, we prefer the action going into the double side, but these are the adjustments when going into the single side.
5 sets inside ball screen for 1. X1 is the critical piece of the zone to read. Most often, X1 will help and seal the space between the guards. This = a pass to 2 rising hard from the corner.
3 must run the baseline when we ball screen going into the single side to create the overload.
5 rolls to the block, he/she cannot be fronted by X5
When 2 catches we now have the forward (X3) triangulated. If X3 stays flat, 2 shoots on the catch or drives the gap between x1 and x3.
1 and 4 form triangles in the gaps of the zone.
if X3 rises with or flies out towards 2 on the catch, "one more" it to 3 in the corner.
3 may also enter to 5. 5 cannot be fronted!
When the defense effectively matches the overloaded side, dribble lift and ball screen for the high wing (2).
1 and 4 form the double side
Now we have Spread Ball Screen going into the double side.
At times defense will adjust and use the Center (X5) to seal 1's drive. This frees X1 to take 2 on the kickout pass thus we have no overload.
This means an automatic throwback to 4. 3, who was en route to overload the single side changes course on the throwback pass to remain on the double side
Same situation as Frame 2 above. The forward X4 is triangulated. 4 has shot/drive decision on the catch, may one more it to 3 if the forward flies out.
