Basketball Play - KU

KU

Rory Hamilton 08/07/2015

I saw Bill Self run this a few years ago against a triangle and two and it has been in my playbook ever since. It has the same concepts as "3-low" from my previous post on attacking a box and 1 . The initial set up is a double stack low with one perimeter player being guarded man to man with the ball, and the other man to man player on the right block. Post players are positioned at both blocks and other guard not being played man to man on the left block. The play is initiated by a double screen low for the unguarded guard to go baseline and look to receive a pass for a shot. After screening the guarded player then clears out to the weak side elbow area. The ball side post player immediately screens the weak side zone defender for a baseline bounce pass while the screener flashes back to middle of the zone. The point guard then screens away for the other guarded player or they can cut through and exchange. On ball reversal, the guard comes off two baseline screens and looks to receive a pass along the baseline and the strong side post screens away and flashes back to the middle and the continuity continues. Basketball Play - Pin Reverse Fade

Pin Reverse Fade

Adam Spinella 07/22/2013

Kevin Stallings and Vanderbilt have run this play for a few seasons, most notably with Festus Ezeli during the 2011-2012 season. As a four guard set it opens up the lane for a screening big man to slip to the rim and for guards to get many good shooting looks. See More

Basketball Play - 98 Bulls Low

98 Bulls Low

Adam Spinella 07/15/2013

The 1998 Chicago Bulls ran this Baseline Out of Bounds play, particularly in the 1998 Playoffs against the Charlotte Hornets. The design was to get Pippen the ball on the block with shooters in Jordan and Kerr around him in the Triangle. Pippen is the first screener, then gets a screen set for him by Rodman in a "screen the screener" action. See More

Basketball Play - Las Vegas Aces - Pinch Post Series | Chicago

Las Vegas Aces - Pinch Post Series | Chicago

Aseem Rastogi 04/17/2019

Perhaps their most effective action, Chicago is taken straight from the Triangle offense to get a dynamic offensive player getting straight to the rim with space. In this case, that dynamic player is Kayla McBride, who is one of the premier scorers in the world. Statistically speaking, McBride ranks in the top 20 in the following categories: Points per game (8th - 18.2) Assists (17th - 3.5) FT% (91.7) 3P% (12th - 39.3%) Minutes (7th - 32.3) With a player as explosive as McBride, The Aces play at a constant advantage when she is moving downhill or coming off screens. Utilizing the Chicago action allows her to do both - come off a lateral screen from a post player and to take a handoff from another with space to her right (strong hand) to attack the rim. On occasion, McBride or Tamera Young will reject the Chicago screen, which can lead to either a double stagger for them toward the rim or the screener popping, making a one more pass to the corner player for a shot/drive decision on the closing defender. Finally, the Aces run a quick hitter to get into this same action, disguising the entry with an Iverson Cut by McBride, a pindown for Wilson, and finally the Chicago action. By running this "false" action prior to the action they actually want, they add an element of confusion for the defense, who now must contend with multiple screens prior to the scouted screens. Basketball Play - Toronto Raptors - 52 Pinch Hammer

Toronto Raptors - 52 Pinch Hammer

Cooper Smither 04/10/2019

Hammer plays are commonplace across the NBA, and Nick Nurse has several different pet plays that utilize this action. Typically run in after timeout scenarios for their best catch-and-shoot players, this play and formation is out of the “Triangle” and the Toronto Raptors' spacing reflects that. With a big on each elbow, the weak side of the floor forming a triangle with a guard in the deep corner and the other near the hashmark, as well as the ball handler initiating the play from the slot extended. Basketball Play - Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

Marquette - 2-3 Nail Dive

Dave Nedbalek 10/31/2018

I am not convinced this is a set play but I do love this action that led to the outcome. Marquette does a great job of creating triangles with defenders and gaps in their zone offense which puts the defense in decision situations where they will be wrong regardless of how they cover it. Basketball Play - Russia (W) - Middle P/R

Russia (W) - Middle P/R

Ryan Nguyen 06/17/2017

Russia ran this middle pick-&-roll action against Belgium in their second game at FIBA EuroBasket Women 2017. The slice (shuffle screen) and screen-the-screener action is decoy to force the defense to move before getting into a middle pick-&-roll attack. As soon as 1 catches the ball from 2 up top, 5 turns around and sprint immediately into a ball-screen. As 5 rolls to the basket 2 "shakes" behind to create a single-side bump. 1 has option of passing to 5 rolling or 2 lifting behind for shot. If X5 is late recovering, 5 rolls into a post-up and receives the post feed from 2 (off of the triangle passing from 1). Another option is to have 4 "short" the pick-&-roll if X5 hard hedges.
