Basketball Play - 5 (Split Options)

5 (Split Options)

Craig LeVasseur 09/21/2015

Miami's "5" set, a variation of Mike D'Antoni's Delay offense in New York, begins with this basic split action, with multiple options for the offense based on how the defense reacts. The Heat used this set to great success during their 2012-13 championship season. See More

If the 1 goes DHO with the 2 Slice Action can take place. That means the 4 will pop out (or set a flare screen to move up top and then pop out). The 2 will immediately reverse the ball to the 4 who will complete the full reversal but hitting the 3 on the wing. The 2 will then “Slice” cut to the strong side block off the screen from the 5. After the cut, the 5 and 4 set a double staggered for the 1 who receives the pass from the 3 at the top of the key. After screening 1, the 4 and 5 complete the wheel action and screen the 2 who peels back off the second double staggered. The 1 then looks to hit the 2 for the shot. See More

Coaches, in my posts you will find me talking about getting your best players the ball a lot. I think it is very important to a teams success that the best players get the most looks and the best looks possible. Sometimes, you also have to get your opponents off balance. I have found the following play successful over the past few seasons, but it seems to me that the more unexpected it is the better. This is a fantastic play to get your trail big an easy bucket. Basketball Play - Lebron Miami Heat SLOB

Lebron Miami Heat SLOB

Wes Kosel 07/18/2015

Allen throws the ball into James as James steps out from the elbow. The first option is to pass to Wade cutting off of a back-screen from Bosh. Another option is for Wade to flare the screen and have Bosh step back to the ball for the pass from James. If Bosh gets the ball, he can play a 2-man game with Wade on the right side of the floor. Basketball Play - Golden State Warriors "Elbow Lob"

Golden State Warriors "Elbow Lob"

Steve Kerr has also used alot of action that the San Antonio Spurs have run with their Motion Strong/Weak and he runs nice options out of this for quick hitters. The first option is a rub screen for Draymond (look for them pointing or hitting their elbow's coming up the court to trigger this). They also run a quick pindown screen for Klay that they like to start each game with, as well as a lob set for Livingston. I think they will run the lob for Shaun Livingston as an entry or way to get him into the post, his matchup off the bench may be Matthew Dellevadova that he clearly will have a height advantage with. Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Memphis Grizzlies Thru Option

Craig LeVasseur 05/06/2015

Memphis ran this early offense action in Game 2 versus the Warriors. It features a thru cut by Mike Conley, and several different options branching off. 5 sets a wide pindown for 2 while 1 finishes his thru cut and curls off of 4 on the block. 3 can hit 2 on the pindown, 1 on the thru cut, or 4 sealing for a post up. If none of these options are available, 3 can reverse back to 2 and set up 2-man game with the 5, opening up a whole new set of options. See More

L.A. Clippers 4 Snap

Craig LeVasseur 04/16/2015

While the Celtics best utilized the Slice series with KG as the trail big, the Clippers prefer to have Blake Griffin start on the block. The Clippers used this setup to get Blake catches at his left block sweet spot. If the post up is not there, the 2 and 3 can play out 2nd side action for additional options. See More
