Basketball Play - C2E Lateral Slide/Sprint/Slide..Grab/Dribble/Shoot Drill

C2E Lateral Slide/Sprint/Slide..Grab/Dribble/Shoot Drill

Rick Allison 12/31/2014

This is a drill for improving quickness and agility in defensive lateral acceleration/deceleration, in combination with sprint dribbling into a pullup jumpshot. It is intended to emphasize game speed movements while incorporating an anaerobic conditioning element. With the addition of one or two change of the direction components to the attack dribble sequence, game speed ball handling may be added to the work load. See More

Basketball Play - Dr. Dish 10-Spot Touch-Bounce Shooting

Dr. Dish 10-Spot Touch-Bounce Shooting

Rick Allison 12/07/2015

This drill utilizes the Dr. Dish shooting machine to facilitate a continuous flow of shooting repetition with variation for three shooters. Variation parameters are location (i.e., shooting angle), ball handling moves and initiating dribble hand. Each shooter takes three consecutive shots to establish a repetition rhythm and allow a short refinement opportunity. Ball handling variations include different crossovers, combinations and counters. The drill framework can be used for other ball handling and shooting footwork movements, as well. See More

Basketball Play - Dr. Dish C2E Explosive D and Wing Curl Options

Dr. Dish C2E Explosive D and Wing Curl Options

Rick Allison 12/10/2015

These movement sequences combine an emphasis on lateral defensive quickness and wing curl shooting options with precise footwork. Each sequence results in a different movement pattern and shot, but builds on an attack counter strategy. This is certainly a technique development drill, but can be modified to add an antagonist to provide initial cue for defensive acceleration direction, and then rotational closeout context on the curl. Dr. Dish can be set with a tempo long enough for the option which requires the most time and shooter can machine gun feet until Dr. Dish passes the ball to start each option sequence. Or, if coach is passer then the Dr. Dish remote can be used. If used for technique development, the sequences should be performed on both sides of the basket, either alternately or repeating the 6 sequences on the opposite side. See More

Basketball Play - Dr. Dish C2E Cross Texas 2-Step Wing Attack Series

Dr. Dish C2E Cross Texas 2-Step Wing Attack Series

Rick Allison 12/13/2015

The Cross Texas 2-Step is a 3-count rhythmic ball handling maneuver where the crossing of the ball and the first of the 2 steps creates a momentary bidirectional cue diversion for the defender. That is, the ball is crossed from one side to the other while pseudo simultaneously stepping and planting in the opposite direction. In most cases it seems, the defender when confronted with 2 cues in opposite directions tends to favor (or lean toward) the latter cue. The 2nd step is now in the direction of the ball and opposite to the 1st plant step allowing the ball handler to get by the defender whose is leaning in the wrong direction. See More

Basketball Play - MAVERICKS - GUARD DRIVE

MAVERICKS - GUARD DRIVE

Jens Hakanowitz 01/03/2015

The Dallas Mavericks use this play to create a strong hand drive for their scoring guards Monta Ellis and Rajon Rondo. In addition, the set provides options for Tyson Chandler rolling to the basket and Dirk Nowitzki popping behind the arc. If one of the weak side guards helps on the drive, than the Mavericks got shooters ready spotting up behind the 3point line. See More

Basketball Play - Houston Rockets Big-Big Drag

Houston Rockets Big-Big Drag

Craig LeVasseur 05/12/2015

This is a very basic early offense option that Houston used against Dallas in the 1st round of the NBA Playoffs. The drag screen typically involves the point guard and one or both bigs, but here Josh Smith is the ballhandler and coming off of a screen from Dwight Howard to his strong left hand. The NBA 4 man is not used to defending the ballhandler in a P/R, and Howard rolls hard to the rim always looking for a lob, making this an extremely difficult cover for the defense. Shooters are spread in the corners to limit the ability of help defenders. See More

Basketball Play - 5 (Drag)

5 (Drag)

Craig LeVasseur 09/21/2015

Just like a regular NBA drag screen, this early offense action can occur just as a read and doesn't require a call. When running this action out of a Delay alignment, it immediately becomes a Spread P/R, making it a difficult cover in transition with shooters on the perimeter and no defenders in the paint to bump the roll man.
