Basketball Play - Oklahoma City Thunder - SLOB Double Ballscreen Fade

Oklahoma City Thunder - SLOB Double Ballscreen Fade

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

A very well designed late game SLOB play by the Thunder. For coaches looking to run this set, I believe it is important to make sure your best ball-handler/playmaker is coming off the double ballscreen, as this will make the man guarding the second screener to show/hedge out because he has to respect the ball-handler on the drive/shot and this rotation could make him late getting back to his own man. This is also effective if the defense is switching, because now the man coming off the fade screen has a mismatch. The Thunder do a great job here clearing out the side so that if Durant does not have a shot, he has plenty of room to take his man. See More

Basketball Play - Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Double Ballscreen Stagger

Charlotte Hornets - SLOB Double Ballscreen Stagger

Greg Youncofski 04/19/2016

One of the Hornets favorite sets in the half court can be just as effective as a SLOB. The Hornets set it up by making Batum’s defender fight through false action zipper screens, and then come right back and make him fight through stagger screens. Batum scores here but the play has many options. Your point guard can take it to the rim right away off the ballscreens. If you have a big man who can shoot, have him pop after the stagger screen because if his man switches or overhelps, he could be wide open for a three-pointer. See More

Basketball Play - Fist Up Short vs. Blitz / Hedge (Canada)

Fist Up Short vs. Blitz / Hedge (Canada)

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

This is a very effective play against a team that will blitz/hedge out on the middle ballscreen. The ball-handler is not looking to beat his man off the screen, but instead is looking to hit the bottom big as quickly as possible. The ballscreener is looking to set the screen and then roll quickly to the basket to receive the big to big pass before his man can recover. Make sure one of your better passers is making the big to big pass. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - "Dallas Action"

Dallas Mavericks - "Dallas Action"

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

This set provides that opportunity because as 1 is catching the ball, the 5 man is setting a ballscreen immediately on X1, giving 1 a chance to attack in a straight line drive right off the catch. Also, this can be an effective play against a team that will blitz/hard hedge the side ballscreen, as 2 can hit 1 quickly off the screen and 1 will have plenty of time to throw the lob to 4 rolling to the basket before the defense recovers. Basketball Play - Washington Wizards - Shuffle/Stagger Spain

Washington Wizards - Shuffle/Stagger Spain

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

To make this as effective as possible have your best shooter set the backscreen for the 5 man. This puts his defender in a very difficult position as he has a split second to decide if he is going to stop the ball, stop the roll, or just worry about preventing the best three-point shooter from getting an open shot. It is also effective because it brings three defenders to the main action in the middle of the floor, thus eliminating another help defender just standing there waiting to rotate. See More

Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - "Quick Get"

Cleveland Cavaliers - "Quick Get"

Greg Youncofski 04/26/2016

This set puts your point guard in a position to make a play off the catch. The quick rub screen forces X1 to have to help on 5 to prevent the layup, which then makes him late recovering to 1 on the ballscreen. If you are able to get a layup for the 5 man the first time you run it, that will set up the ballscreen even more for the second time you go to it. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Option

Dallas Mavericks - Option

Greg Youncofski 05/03/2016

This action is great for teams with a scorer. Most teams are familiar enough with scouting reports to know where each player (especially the better players) is going to be coming off of screens. However, this action will force the defense to have to worry about going two different directions. By faking one way and going another, this can throw the defense off just enough to get your best player a clean look at the basket. See More
