Favorite Send to FastDrawFrom the Midwest Region, Coach Izzo ran this play early in the 1st half. I like the action involved because it gives you different looks that we all incorporate into our BLOBs but in the same play. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis sets main action is a step up ballscreen. I really like step up ballscreens because I think it gets the action going towards the rim and is harder to “load up” against. Even if you are a coach who doesn’t run a lot of ballscreens it is important to have different plays where different angled ballscreens are being set. As I’m preparing for an opponent and watching film, one of the first things I am trying to figure out is how to scheme against ballscreens. The toughest teams to prepare for are ones that have multiple angled and multiple action ballscreens (side, high, flat, step up, roll/replace, drags, slips, doubles, L ballscreens etc) that force you to review and have in multiple defensive schemes. Favorite Send to FastDrawThis drill is designed to teach primary break by getting players to fill lanes and get the ball up the floor quickly by passing it. If you need to make sure that your players run wide, you can place cones seven feet from the sideline at half court. Favorite Send to FastDrawToday's FastDraw Play of the Day is "Zone Lob". Run what the Tar Heels run vs a zone to get a dunk! See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawWhile the head coach of the New Jersey Nets, Lawrence Frank ran this sideline out of bounds play at the end of a game in a Need 3 situation. Most of us are aware of the box screen the screener (stagger) that is referred to as America's play because everyone in American runs it. Well this action is a small tweak to the play in the event the defense tries to switch the 2-3 screen, this forces X2 and X3 to trail in both situations. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLast night the Chicago Bull ran this quick hitter post action to start the 4th quarter versus the Washington Wizards. Noah did a great job selling this play dribbling at the pin-down before quickly turning to feed Gibson ducking in. Noah's quick dribble right put X4 a step off Gibson to allow the easy post. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play is from the 2010-2011 Houston Rockets season. The big key for this play to work is having a post player that can make a pass out of the post. You have to make sure you get the timing down of your 5 man rolling off of the ball screen into the cross screen from 2, and your 4 man receiving the pass from 1. If you can train your 4 man to make the read on slipping the down screen set for 2, you will be able to get him easy lay ups. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe Florida Gators do a very good job running their half court Ball Screen Motion offense. With good screening angles, strong basket cuts, and good spacing for kick-out passes, the Gators are able too breakdown defenses with their quickness on the perimeter and the strength of their inside game. Coach Donovan does a good job adjusting his sets during the course of the game giving his team the best chance to get high percentage shots from their half court offenses. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawHere is a shooting drill that can be done individually or as a team. Shooters compete against themselves or teammates. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a fun set to install. The players will love it and you'll love the result. We use a pass I first saw late one night watching FIBA basketball on NBATV. Think Manu Ginobili type play. Your player passing will sprint to the baseline, jump out of bounds and complete a cross court pass. I like this pass because if the defense tips it you get to run a BLOB (see my other posts) and most defenders, mine included are going to stop at the baseline. If they don't, again, hit them and its a BLOB opportunity. Drill included See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawOver the past few years ball screens have been more and more prevalent in all levels of basketball. The Mens Basketball Team at the University of Florida have many sets that involve the ball screen. These are just a few of them that they have run the past two seasons. Their posts to a great job of reading whether to slip to the basket, pop, roll and seal etc... This season they have really taken advantage of Erik Murphy which would be comparable in the NBA to a Stretch 4 like a Ryan Anderson on the New Orleans Hornets. The Post to Post option is a great little wrinkle you can incorporate in your ball screen action if you have a young or inexperienced point guard who is being trapped often or against a team that hard hedges on screens. With the post to post screen, the post players defense will have an extremely difficult time sprinting to the top of the floor to show on the ball screen. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawLast night the Miami Heat were down 4 versus the Brooklyn Nets at the end of the game and Erik Spoelstra drew up this action to get Lebron James a quick catch & shoot 3-ptr. Lebron made the shot but it wasn’t enough as the Heat fell to the Nets in Brooklyn’s home opener for the season. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawKentucky ran this set in their matchup with Connecticut in the National Championship. This was the first play of the 2nd half and cut the UCONN lead to one. The play is made by Julius Randle who drives hard from the perimeter to draw the defense and make a pass for 3pt shot. Aaron Harrison does a great job circling from the corner to the wing for a 3pt shot. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a play that you can use vs a MatchUp zone as a continuity or vs a 2 front zone as a set play. The play uses timing and screens to attack the defense and force defenders to decide who to guard. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawFrom a box set, 1 uses on ball screens from 4-5. 2 cuts baseline off 3's screen to left wing. This signals a 3-4 back screen to free 4 in the paint. On ball reversal to 3, 5 sets on ball screen and roll for penetration. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawGame 3 of the NBA Finals was all about the San Antonio Spurs' role players, so what better way to recognize them than by drawing up one of their many 3-pointers. After an impressive 3 quarters from Danny Green and Gary Neal the Spurs continued their hot shooting by ranning this stagger action to get Neal yet another 3-pointer. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAlyssa Thomas scored 23 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, Tianna Hawkins added a career-high 23 points and the No. 8 Maryland Women (20-3, 7-3 ACC) beat No. 22 Georgia Tech 64-56 on Monday night. This hard fought contest, in which the lead changed hands eight times and the score was tied 12 times, gave the Terps their 20th win for the eighth consecutive season under head coach Brenda Frese. As excited as the Maryland Women's staff was to win this game, and reach this milestone, it was a coach on the Maryland Men's staff that they wanted us to highlight this week! Assistant coach Scott Spinelli, took over for Head Coach Mark Turgeon when Turgeon was ejected from their game vs. Miami on February 1st. Spinelli, a member of Turgeon’s staffs for six seasons, said Turgeon’s eruption was the coach’s way of sparking life into his players, who were far too timid against a more physical, hungry Miami team. Spinelli led the Terps to an exciting comeback, from down 16 points, that fell just short in a 90-86 double-overtime loss; however, Spinelli's leadership in an adverse situation showed why he is a rising star in the coaching profession. The video below shows an example of Maryland perfectly executing a play drawn up by Spinelli in a huddle, and is detalied in the FastDraw diagrams below. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawStanford runs this variation of the Triangle Offense. They use the "pinch post" to flare screen for the guard. He then executes a dribble handoff which can turn into a backdoor on the overplay or two-man action. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawBlind Hit is a very quick backdoor option run by current UTEP and former USC Men's Basketball Coach Tim Floyd. Whether a defense is over-pressuring or caught napping, this is an effective backdoor option to get your guard a layup or dunk. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawSyracuse ran this double pick & roll to get forward C.J. Fair posted up in an iso situation. Favorite Send to FastDrawBy popular Twitter demand, today's Play of the Day is the sideline out of bounds play run by the Russian National Team in their thrilling 65-64 victory over Slovenia at Eurobasket 2011 last weekend. In this play, the Russian team uses misdirection and a ball screen to free up Sergey Monya on the sideline for a game winning jumper. This video of today's "Play of the Day" shows you how the play unfolded on the court against a defense: See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThe lag pass or floor reversal option is a staple in the triangle offense. If the first post up option is not open, reverse and look for the pinch post. Coaches can get creative on the actions they want to run. Dribble handoffs, isolations, and pick and rolls all can be incorported. Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and Carmelo Anthony all have had success in the pinch post See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a great drill we do often at the beginning of practice. It gets the players talking and moving early in the session. We have also incorporated this into our pre-game warm-up See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis play the Florida Gators used to run a lot during end of games situations, is similar to one the San Antonio Spurs run called “Hammer”. This a great play to run as it gives you multiple scoring options to counter defensive adjustments.
