02/03/2014Last night this play was run at the beginning of the game between the Florida Gators and Mississippi State. It struck me as such a strong opening play that I had to diagram it and share with the other coaches out there. A lot of movement, the use of the DHO and at the end, a perfectly played pass inside for the seal action and easy basket. A great play to open the game when you have a strong 5 man who can get the 1st position inside and go to work. Billy Donovan runs some of the most dynamic sets in the college game today. See More

RMU 2-3 Split Set
03/11/2015Robert Morris just won the NEC Championship and a spot in the NCAA Tournament. Back on December 2, 2014 we made the short 50 minute drive to RMU to play at the Sewell Center. We ended up winning the game by a score of 89-81 after one of the most offensive efficient first halves of basketball i’ve ever seen as both teams shot over 62% from the field. The second half we went to more zone in attempt to slow them down, and it worked. One of their counters to our 2-3 zone defense was to screen in the top defenders of the zone allowing their guard to split the defense and get in the middle of the lane. See More

Motion Breakdowns - 1/0 With Chair
02/12/2015Motion Breakdowns: To begin teaching the four basic cuts of motion offense (curl, back, out, straight) use a folding chair to simulate the screener setting a downscreen. Players on the wing have a ball, they pass to coach/Asst./Mgr./player who is centered. Stress setting up the cut by "walking the arc" then sprinting the cut. Miss the chair late! Call your cut! Teach the two inside cuts (curl, back) first. Work the drill on both sides or the floor. You can have four folding chairs and four lines on a single court with players rotating from line to line. Drill should be LOUD with players calling cuts! If you run motion, this is your most basic shooting drill. Do it daily. These are your game shots! See More
