The variety of sets VCU runs in a single game gives their offense a chance to score on every possession. What makes the VCU Rams such a tough team is their execution in the half court and the ability for their guards to handle the ball. VCU Head Coach Shaka Smart was one of the hottest coaching names in the off-season, but showed his true loyalty to the program that he has built into a yearly power. This year Smart returns a line-up with experience and their offense is enjoyable and entertaining to watch. This BLOB was run by MSU to get their PG Trice a shot off the inbounds action. What made this possible was the miscommunication between the two defenders guarding Harris & Trice. They got caught in a switch and Trice's defender got pinned behind the screen giving the inbounder a clear pass off the double screen to the shooter. See More

The Michigan State Spartans played the Kentucky Wildcats on Tueday night in the Champions Classic at the United Center in Chicago. This was an early season match-up of numbers 1 & 2 in the polls. Kentucky came in with a vaunted recruiting class and the two coach's are surely one day too be in the Hall of Fame. This play was run by Tom Izzo's Spartans when they needed a basket. It is a well designed play out of the 1-4 High Set. What makes this play so effective is the weak side cutting action eliminating any helpside defender. Marquette Head Coach Buzz Williams ran the 4 High Series and this is an easy to use set for all levels. There is a good over the top action to being freeing up the 2 man on the wing who can look to drive if the defense gets hung up in the screen. Second, they run a good UCLA action for the PG who cuts to the basket looking for a possible pass. You get a ball reversal and baseline screen for 1 who comes out looking for his shot or post entry to 5 sealing in. There is a Zipper action for the 3 man who cuts off 5 to the basket looking for a quick hit lob pass or direct lay-up. The play ends with a SPNR between 5 & 1 and the spacing is excellent coming off the screen as the shooters spot up on the wing and corner, 4 dives to the weak side block. This is a play from the Lokomotiv Urban Krasnodar vs Panathinaikos Athens in the Euroleague on Friday night. It is a great Horns set vs M2M utilizing a middle screen at the end for a lob pass or backdoor lay-up opportunity. This set does a good job of taking away weak side help by clearing the wing setting up the middle screen and pass option at the basket Panathinaikos has won the Euroleague 6x's and is one of the most storied clubs in Europe. Tbis is a set play run by the Pittsburg Panthers in their pre-season game against Slippery Rock. It is a low stack action utilizing the side PNR. What makes this play so effective is the slip action by the 4 man and the 5 coming right in behind setting a good ball screen. With 5 rolling to the basket, x4's defender is forced to help leaving 4 wide open in the corner for the throwback pass and subsequent open 3 pt shot. This is the winning shot hit last night by Casey Jacobsen for the Brosebaskets Bamberg of Germany in their Euroleague match-up against Anadolu Efes Istanbul from Turkey. With the victory, Bamberg improves to 2-1 in their group. Jacobsen left the Stanford Cardinals in 2002 and played 3 years with the Phoenix Suns in the NBA. He had a short stint with the New Orleans Hornets before going overseas to play with Baskonia Vittoria.of Spain. From there he went to play with Bamberg leading them to the 2007 German Bundesliga Title. He spent one season with Bamberg before returning stateside to play with the Memphis Grizzlies before returning overseas to Germany to play with storied club Alba Berlin. Since 2009, Jacobsen has been back with the Brosebaskets Bamberg leading them to 4 Titles. Head Coach Chris Fleming is a graduate of the University of Richmond and has success at every stop he's been at in Germany as a Head Coach.
