Basketball Play - Zip Pin Duck

Zip Pin Duck

Matt Hackenberg 12/01/2021

In this set we go back to the interior for a set play designed to get a scoring post a touch on the block. The set uses a little misdirection by dribble pushing the entry away from where the post up will materialize. The dribble push triggers a zipper cut, and the ball is swung to a player receiving a pin down screen to be open. The post who pins down, then seals up for the post entry. Basketball Play - 1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

1-2-2 Zone Offense: Stagger Slip

Matt Hackenberg 11/24/2021

This is a zone set using a 1-2-2 alignment. I love the play because if nothing materializes, you are left with a 1-3-1 alignment that plays well against most zones. The ball is entered to the wing, and the wing uses a drag dribble down the sideline to shift the defense. The ball is returned to 1 who dribbles to the other side of the court while reading the defense. The action is a stagger screen with a slip into the middle of the defense. Our primary look is the slip to the middle, but we would take the stagger if the defense didn't cover it. Getting the slip in the middle opens up many options for the offense - shot, kick down, kick out. See More

Basketball Play - Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Quick Hitter: Box Overload Duck

Matt Hackenberg 11/23/2021

Any time we had a functional big man, we always have this in the playbook. The play is simple, and provides a great opportunity to isolate your big. The movement puts the defense in a tough spot because the back side help is removed, so if they front, we can throw over the top for a layup. If they play behind, we have a 1 on 1 opportunity on the block. The play gets right to the point of the set, which I like because it limits the number of ball handlers and decisions that need to be made. You can easilty hide weaker players in the 4 or the 2 spot in this play. Miami Heat - Elevator Game Winner SLOB

Tony Miller 11/19/2021

Watch the video below as Coach Tony Miller uses FastDraw, the #1 play diagramming program for basketball coaches, to break down this sideline set from the NBA’s Miami Heat. Great design if you have two good shooters; one can be a decoy to set up the twist and elevator screen. There is also high potential for a screener slipping to the rim if their defender shows on the shooter. Send to your FastDraw library using the button above. Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - PNP Backdoor

Texas Tech Red Raiders - PNP Backdoor

Matt Wheeler 11/05/2021

Texas Tech took advantage of the aggressive denial of the wing in this play to get a backdoor cut for a dunk. After 4 gets the ball off the pick and pop, 3 cuts to the wing looking to get a pass or handoff from 4. Once x3 starts to deny the pass, 3 cuts backdoor to receive the pass from 4. 5 cuts up the lane to set a fake screen to make x5 a little late on the help. Video clip below. See More

Basketball Play - Villanova Wildcats - Baseline Lob vs Zone

Villanova Wildcats - Baseline Lob vs Zone

Matt Wheeler 11/05/2021

Villanova runs this simple zone action to free up the 4 for a lob cutting from the baseline. 2 cuts across the court to the opposite wing which occupies x3. 5 cuts up the lane line to occupy x5. 1 dribbles to the middle of the floor making sure to keep the matchup with x1, so he doesn't have a chance to rotate. This opens up 4 to take a run at the rim for a lob from 1. Video clip below. See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a very common action in the Maverick's playbook. This false motion must be honored with players like Doncic, Hardaway, KP and the rest of the Mavericks weapons. This stagger into a ball screen will prompt a switch and the opportunity for the Mavericks to roll their newest big man, 7'2" Moses Brown, into the paint with a guard on his back and surrounded by shooters. This set can be run for any player you would like to get a deep paint catch for. Video clip below. See More
