Favorite Send to FastDrawThe 1 on 1 closeout drill works on moving when the ball is passed, getting into the proper help position, and knowing what type of closeout to use based of the skill set and shooting ability of the offensive player. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawMemphis 3-Player Closeout drill which has many different variations. This version is one we used at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. I like it because it emphasizes footwork and fundamentals, and then turns into live play at the end. Tailor it to your defensive philosophy. See More

Favorite Send to FastDrawThis is a progression of drills to build an understaning of all the roles and scoring opportunities in transition offense. By no means will this address decision making, but it is a good way to start to build good tranisition habits. Click for more #PlayerDevelopmentWeek content! See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawAs part of #PlayerDevelopmentWeek I am putting together a series of drill progressions that we use in order to develop skills to fit our Dribble Drive Motion Offense. In this second installment we are looking at "Finishing at the Rim". What we are hoping for our players is that they can finish at the rim from multiple angles, and with a variety of finishes. The "1/0 Technique" Drill below makes our players finish from the three most common angles within our offense; 1) The Slot Drive, 2) The Wing Drive from the Corner, and the 3) Baseline Drive. We want our players to feel comfortable finishing with at least 1-2 different techniques from both their strong hand and their weak hand. So over the course of the season we will emphasize these finishes; 1) Extended Arm, 2) Scoop, 3) Inside Hand, 4) Stride Stop, 5) Jump Stops, & 6) Reverse Pivots. The "1/1 and 2/2 Russian" Drills are good once we have moved beyond the Phase A portion of finishing. Those two drills are not only fun for the players, but represent very common finishing opportunities within our offense, 1) The Slot Drive with an advantage and 2) The Drop Pass. Favorite Send to FastDrawPlayers go 1 on 1 The defender must contain the ball handler for the length of half court If the ball handler beats the defender, he should pull back his dribble. The defender then would go back to guarding him. When the two players get to the end of half court, the defensive player goes to the end of the line. The offensive player switches to defense. Next in line becomes offense, and they go back the other way. See More
Favorite Send to FastDrawThis series of teaching drill for spread ball screen offense begins as an intro to the modern big tips of the running slip and the pick & go. Begining 1v0, bigs learn the screening angle techniques. Phase the drill by adding guards who can practice pocket and hook passes. The drill is loaded all the way to 3v3 on a side. Favorite Send to FastDrawThe 11 Man Fastbreak is one of our players' favorite drills. It is essentially a continous 3 on 2 transition drill that we use to emphasize pitch aheads and "Finding Advantages." This is generally a drill where I try not to blow the whistle much, but I will blow the whistle if we are straying from our transtion principles. I generally choose to emphasize 1) Running the Sideline Hard, 2) Hunting Pitch Ahead Passes, 3) Keeping Advantages Alive, and 4) Attacking the Rim.
