Basketball Play - Ball Screen Series

Ball Screen Series

James Ponchak 04/11/2015

Here is a series of drills that Coach Hurley uses at Saint Anthony to work on ball screen reads. It is a great example of how your skill work can build your offense. I like that Coach Hurley is creating good habits for his athletes while simultaneously developing their skills within the offense. This is a good concept to think about and use to develop drills that will create good habits within your offense. As we teach at PGC Basketball, "In moments of extreme pressure, athletes revert to their most deeply held habits." See More

Basketball Play - Double Screen Low

Double Screen Low

Basketball HQ 10/06/2012

Shooter needs to set his man up and not be predictable on his cut. Come off the screen ready to shoot if you are open. Don’t make the shooter wait on the ball. If you can get the ball to your best player where the defender is at a disadvantage then you have done your job as a coach. On this play the defender is late to the ball because he had trouble with the double screen that let the shooter drive the ball past him to the basket. Create situations for your players to have an advantage over the defense. This play is from the 2005-2006 Duke season. See More

Basketball Play - Finland 4-Out Through

Finland 4-Out Through

Wes Kosel 06/18/2015

1 passes to 2 on the wing then cuts through to the opposite corner. 2 looks to pass inside to 5 right away. Once 5 has the ball, 4 screens for 1 in the corner and 3 fills across the floor to the opposite wing. 5 looks to score or can pass out to 1. If 1 gets the ball without a shot, 5 steps out to set a ball-screen. 1 drives towards the baseline as 5 rolls and 4 replaces 5. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Fist Down Pin

Spurs Fist Down Pin

Daniel Murphy 01/15/2014

Up 11 with 1:20 left there were 8 seconds left on the shot clock. The Spurs ran this middle ball screen in their game vs. Memphis. The pin down on the strong side keeps the defense occupied. A hard hedge in the middle of the floor opens up the corner 3 because x3 has to pull in to help on 5's roll. See More

Basketball Play - Miami DHO Pin Down

Miami DHO Pin Down

Daniel Murphy 05/16/2013

Opening play ran by the Heat in their 94-91 closeout game 5 win over the Bulls 5/16/13. With two dynamic scores handing off and a potential Haslem ball screen the Bulls defense was focused on the strong side. Having Bosh pin down for Chalmers game him space to attack the hoop in the center off the court. Altough Boozer was guarding Haslem, and Haslem was standing on a wing, Boozer was protecting the rim. If the Heat had a stretch 4 in at the time, Chalmers would have had a clear path to the rim, or a kick out to a wide open shooter. See More

Pin Reject

John Leonzo 03/16/2014

Here is an ATO set that the Hawks have run after Korver hits a couple shots. They act as if they are going to pin down for him to pop and get a shot, but the cutter rejects the screen and flares the screener for a shot. See More

Miami Down Screen Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/12/2013

The Miami Heat ran this against the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Finals to eliminate #21 Tim Duncan from hedging or trapping the ball screen. By having #6 Lebron James play the 3 he could handle the ball and free the 1 man #30 Norris Cole up to set a down screen for the 5 man #1 Chris Bosh. This is how #6 Lebron James got so many pull up jumpers as the Spurs post were slow getting up to the ball screen. See More

Kyle Gilreath 06/09/2014

In Game 2 of the 2014 NBA Finals the Miami Heat ran this play to get Wade an iso post lifted off the block. It seemed the defense knew this was coming but was still unable to stop the post feed as Wade had a smaller defender on him at the time. See More
