Basketball Play - 4v4 Neutral Restrictions

4v4 Neutral Restrictions

Michael Lynch 08/31/2018

Using four out perimeter spacing we try to recreate game like situations in the short sided game (SSG) format. Here we have our most common actions within our Dribble Drive Motion system. Starting the SSG in a neutral scenario, it is up to the offense to use a pre-determined action to create A) a Double Gap and B) Drive the Basketball into it. Coaches can pre-determine the action or simply allow players to create freely. See videos below for game examples of these actions! Free Play Game

Michael Shaughnessy 08/27/2018

This is a great drill/workout to use for individual training. I have used this countless times with players and it keeps them engaged and having fun. It challenges them by putting them in various situations where they are forced to make shots and free throws when it counts. Give it a try! See More

Basketball Play - Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Double Stagger Counter

Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Double Stagger Counter

Dave Nedbalek 08/27/2018

This is a counter from the base action I diagramed entitled, "Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy." This is a very simple yet effective counter you can run with this set. The video below is not of this set itselft, but the base horns floppy action. 5 will attempt to bury defender as 2 comes off screen. While this is happening, 1 and 4 set a double stagger screen away for 3 in the corner. This is a great time for several things: 1) 5 in a post isolation situation while help side is working through the stagger. 2) Obviously a 3pt opportunity for 3 if you have a 5 that garners a lot of attention. 3) While the stagger is occuring, if 5 were to sprint into a side ball screen for 2, that would leave 2 a wide open driving line off of a reject of 5's screen. Basketball Play - Run Out Shooting 1v1

Run Out Shooting 1v1

Michael Shaughnessy 08/27/2018

Having players that can knock down shots is obviously a huge advantage for any team. The more players a team has that are high percentage shooters, the better that team will be on the offensive end of the floor. It's not just about making the shots when they are wide open, but also being able to make shots without being distracted by a defender attempting to run a shooter off the 3pt line. This drill is a great way to add that defensive element to make your shooting drills more game-like for players. Emphasize focus on the basket and not thinking twice with a defender closing out. Basketball Play - Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Spain SPNR Counter

Toledo Rockets - Horns Floppy: Spain SPNR Counter

Dave Nedbalek 08/26/2018

This is a counter from the base action I diagramed entitled, "Toledo Horns Floppy." This is a very simple yet effective counter you can run with this set. The vide below is not of this set itselft, but the base Horns Floppy action. As 2 comes off of 5's floppy screen, 4 will hit 2 and sprint straight into a side pick and roll. 2 will hunt the nail pulling the ball two bounces away from the screen looking to get in the paint with a scoring mindset first. As 4 rolls to the rim 5 will set a back screen on the defender in ball screen coverage. I worded that carefully to account for the likelihood of a switch. Screen the defender that is in ball screen coverage. After setting the back screen, 5 will pop to recover spacing/get outside of the 3pt line. This is a deadly action if you have a 5 who can step out and shoot it. 2's reads: 1) score 2) Lob/pass to 4 rolling 3) 5 popping It goes without saying that if the weak side defense hugs in, then 2 would kickout to 1, or 3 holding the side ready to shoot.
