Basketball Play - Cleveland Cavaliers - Hawk Bump

Cleveland Cavaliers - Hawk Bump

Ryan Nguyen 04/05/2017

This Hawk set is a wrinkle from the Cleveland Cavaliers "Hawk Stagger" action when X2 denies 2 cutting to the basket off of the back screen. Instead of 2 cutting off of the weakside stagger screen from 4 & 5, he sets a double ball-screen with 3 for 1. As 1 attacks off of the ball screen, 3 rolls to the short corner and 5 sets a down screen for 4 as X5 is zoning up to help on the penetration and roll. 1 has option driving it to the basket, passing to 3 on the roll, 2 "shaking" behind 3's roll or drive-and-kick to 4 (Kevin Love) exiting to the wing. Basketball Play - Kansas - SLOB Iverson Lob

Kansas - SLOB Iverson Lob

Matt Wheeler 03/24/2017

Kansas finished off a run with this SLOB play in their sweet sixteen game against Purdue. 1 makes a zipper cut to receive the inbounds pass from 4. 4 makes an Iverson cut off of screens from 3 & 5. Once x4 curls over the top of 5, x5 has to provide help at the rim. In this play he didn't and 4 was able to get the lob dunk. Another key is 1 selling the Iverson cut for 4 by following him with the dribble. 1 cuts back before the cut to the rim to set up a better passing angle. See More

Basketball Play - OKC Thunder - Corner OOB

OKC Thunder - Corner OOB

Matt Wheeler 03/02/2017

The Oklahoma City Thunder faced a unique late game situation in their game against the New Orleans Pelicans, having to inbound the ball from the deep corner.. This situation provides difficult passing angles for the offense and allows the defense to load up on the ball side of the floor. The Thunder ran this play to free up some spacing and get the ball safely into their best ball handler. See More

Basketball Play - Piston Drill

Piston Drill

Rory Hamilton 08/03/2016

This is by far the most important drill in teaching our 1-3-1. This drill incorporates the pushers and keeper working together in a piston like fashion. They must communicate who is big on ball and who is wide off the ball. In this drill, a coach will start with a ball and a pusher is big on the ball. The keeper than can back off and play the passing lane back to the other coach. The weak side pusher splits the difference from the block player and other coach. See More

Basketball Play - 1-3-1 Defense Player Positioning Part 2

1-3-1 Defense Player Positioning Part 2

Rory Hamilton 07/26/2016

In "3" defense Player Positioning Part 2, you can see there are a couple of ways to cover the corner pass. If your team is less athletic but has some length, you may want to play passing lanes and not trap. If you have quickness and athleticism, you may want to trap more. Both coverages are shown in the diagram as well as slides after pass out of the corner. See More

Basketball Play - Oklahoma City Thunder "RWB Backdoor"

Oklahoma City Thunder "RWB Backdoor"

Gibson Pyper 05/16/2016

The Oklahoma City Thunder run a great backdoor set for Russell Westbrook with Kevin Durant passing. After intial action similar to floppy, Durant comes off a pindown into a dribble hand off. After the hand off he hesitates looks at Westbrook who then plants and goes backdoor. Look for the Thunder to unleash this set in the conference finals, typically after a time out. See More
