Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - 25 Rub

Texas Tech Red Raiders - 25 Rub

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is a very simple way to put 5's defender in a tough situation and a step behind a quick strike action. Notice the motion principles staying true off-ball with Culver adding the flare screen after 2's brush screen on 5. If x5 jumps to coverage early your big can slip to the rim wide open. As with most of Tech's offense were never 100% sure what is a natural occurrence in their true motion offense but nonetheless, this is a simple effective way to help your big arrive alone. Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - Hot Action

Texas Tech Red Raiders - Hot Action

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is an extremely difficult action to make x5 guard but is incredibly simple to run. We call this "Hot Action" which is a back screen off-ball, followed immediately by an on-ball screen. If the big tags the cutter on the back-screen as he should, unless they are switching, this puts him late to his ball screen coverage. Simple, yet effective. Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Floppy Flare

Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Floppy Flare

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is a sample of the organic nature of the Texas Tech offense. It is hard to know whether or not this is a designed action after the floppy with Culver due to the constant player freedom to screen off ball at any time but this does give you a preview of the certain type of actions you will be responsible to communicate through and guard when playing vs. Texas Tech. Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Kitchen Sink

Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Kitchen Sink

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is a sample of the Texas Tech true motion offense. This is not a set play but a picture of the sequences of actions you will have to guard when facing them. In one possession you have to guard: a drag screen, flare screen, slipped step-up screen, a pick & pop, and one last flare screen by the 5 to empty the paint. The spacing struggles at times but they force you into uncommon situations and actions that it presents the opportunity for miscommunication and scoring opportunities. Basketball Play - Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Step Up

Texas Tech Red Raiders - Motion Sample: Step Up

Dave Nedbalek 04/08/2019

This is another preview of an action that is beautiful that occurred organically in the Texas Tech motion offense. Of all the actions we prepare our team to guard, we don't guard post up defense to pin down into a double step-up ball screen very well. This action puts great pressure on the rim because of both the athletic ability of Tariq Owens and the vision and beautiful pass by Matt Mooney. Basketball Play - Memphis Grizzlies - 21 Rip Clear

Memphis Grizzlies - 21 Rip Clear

Dave Nedbalek 09/09/2020

Great early offense transition set from the Grizzlies. This is a wrinkle out of their early offense to get Jaren Jackson an isolated post touch. His gravity will pull the single side open for Brandon Clarke's lob. The original wing is still in a free throw line extended position from the Pistol pitch ahead which makes his defender choose to tag Clarke's roll or stay attached to the shooter. Beautiful timing and spacing in this set. See More

Basketball Play - Texas Longhorns - 4 Flat Twist

Texas Longhorns - 4 Flat Twist

Dave Nedbalek 11/18/2020

Another action from Shaka Smart that the Longhorns utilized efficiently in the '19-20 season was this 4 flat into a twisted ball screen. This action would be used to counter teams that hard hedged or tried to show aggressively to contain the Longhorn guards. With the last minute twist to the screen it would penalize good coverage and leave runways for the Longhorn perimeter players to drive, cut, dish and repeat. The beauty is in the simplicity. #Top25XsOs: Honorable Mention Teams | Teams 25-21 | Teams 20-16 | Teams 15-11 | Teams 10-6 | Teams 5-1 *New customers use discount code SAVE10 at purchase* See More

Basketball Play - Houston Cougars - Shallow Double Drag

Houston Cougars - Shallow Double Drag

Dave Nedbalek 11/18/2020

The Houston Cougars use this set to give their guards double driving gaps and accentuate it with sending them to that gap off a non-traditional double drag screen. The 3 man coming from high to low in order to set this traffic screen puts x3 in a very tough situation depending on ball screen coverage. It simply looks like 3 will slice through and then he will flip his hips into a double drag screen with 4. The set ends in beautiful spacing with room to play on the catch. While Houston's initial action doesn't always result in a basket, the action shifts the defense with hard cuts, body to body screens, and threatening drives. This creates driving lanes where that Cougars will crack by the end of the posession. #Top25XsOs: Honorable Mention Teams | Teams 25-21 | Teams 20-16 | Teams 15-11 | Teams 10-6 | Teams 5-1 *New customers use discount code SAVE10 at purchase* See More

Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Loop Follow Punch SLOB

Dallas Mavericks - Loop Follow Punch SLOB

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a great set that will take advantage of any ball screen coverage. It is especially effective in taking advantage of switches as you see in the video below. The quick timing of the iverson/rub cut into the middle pick and roll will distort the help to either get 5 on the initial lob, 1 an advantage in space vs. the 5, or the throwback post entry the Mavericks use here. Basketball Play - Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dallas Mavericks - Stagger Ghost KU

Dave Nedbalek 10/19/2021

This is a very common action in the Maverick's playbook. This false motion must be honored with players like Doncic, Hardaway, KP and the rest of the Mavericks weapons. This stagger into a ball screen will prompt a switch and the opportunity for the Mavericks to roll their newest big man, 7'2" Moses Brown, into the paint with a guard on his back and surrounded by shooters. This set can be run for any player you would like to get a deep paint catch for. Video clip below. See More
