Basketball Play - Stack 1, Stack 2 and Stack 3

Stack 1, Stack 2 and Stack 3

Randall Edens 07/09/2013

Today's Focus: Baseline Out of Bounds Sets that help with Set Up on the floor, communicating with hand signals the 'Call' itself and being effective at the same time with the design. Simple? Yes...but effective when done correctly. Typically, we will go with a different core of 3-5, similar set up, each season. We have specials too, but these here will be our staples pending the season. These are typical sets we run over the summer too as they are EASY to remember. Frame 1 + 2 = Stack 1, Frame 3 + 4 = Stack 2 and Frame 5 + 6 = Stack 3 Soon... a BOX Series, a Shapes Series and a Letter Series of BLOB plays from me. Any questions, please follow me @CoachEdens and shoot me a message and I'd be glad to help. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Stagger Screen

Spurs Stagger Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/08/2013

The San Antonio Spurs utilized a lot of movement and spacing to create open rolling lanes for #21 Tim Duncan. Here they look for the quick hoop as the 3 man curls off a stagger screen. After screening #21 Tim Duncan pops back to get a catch. He executes a dribble handoff and dives hard to the rim. The Miami Heat had a difficult time dealing with him rolling. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Stagger On-Ball

Spurs Stagger On-Ball

The spacing on this set is incredibly tight which places high importance on the ball handlers ability and the screeners timing. Here the San Antonio Spurs run #9 Tony Parker off a stagger screen while allowing #20 Manu Ginobili uses a #21 Tim Duncan ball screen. With the spacing being so tight the help defense is non-existent as they are hugged up with their own man. See More

Basketball Play - "Split Post"

"Split Post"

Kyle Gilreath 07/08/2013

The Orlando Magic ran this action on versus the Boston Celtics during the 2013 Orlando Summer League. This is just another option out of the elbow set that I discussed several weeks ago! With the defense in helpside position (especially in high school in college where defensive 3 seconds is not a rule), this is a great action if you have bigger guards to duck and seal hard in the middle of the lane for a quick turn and finish. Basketball Play - Spurs Stagger Ball Screen Under

Spurs Stagger Ball Screen Under

Kevin Bruinsma 07/07/2013

#4 Danny Green did a great job of moving around on the perimeter to give the Miami Heat fits in the NBA Finals. In this specific set he went from one corner to the other as #9 Tony Parker was dribbling off the stagger screen. His man was so worried about the rolling bigs he didn't even know where Green went. Led to a wide open 3-pointer. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Sprint Side Ball Screen

Spurs Sprint Side Ball Screen

Kevin Bruinsma 07/07/2013

The Spurs ran this against the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals to create seperation on #21 Tim Duncan's side ball screen. #4 Danny Green while Duncan was trailing the play set his man up and set a screen for Duncan so he had a great screening angle on #9 Tony Parker. Everyone spaced the floor and Duncan & Parker played two man game. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs SLOB High Post Follow

Spurs SLOB High Post Follow

Kevin Bruinsma 07/05/2013

My favorite San Antonio Spurs SLOB and the one that the Miami Heat had the most difficulty defending in the NBA Finals. #9 Tony Parker did a great job of curling right around #21 Tim Duncan after passing him the ball for lay-ups. Duncan's defender was scared to help too much to give up an elbow jumper or drive, it led to two #9 Tony Parker lay-ups. See More

Spurs SLOB Bearcat

A common San Antonio Spurs SLOB which didn't translate into many points against the Miami Heat. But the amount they ran it made me think they must have had good success with this action during the season. They utilized these back screens to get #21 Tim Duncan a post iso. The only hoop they got on this action against Miami was a #2 Kawhi Leonard 3 from the top of the key. See More

Basketball Play - Spurs Screen The Screener

Spurs Screen The Screener

Kevin Bruinsma 07/05/2013

A very simple and common set that the San Antonio Spurs ran and scored effectively in the NBA Finals was their screen the screener action out of Early Offense. Miami began defending it by having their weakside corner defender moving up to the top of the key to be there on the catch, and allowing their defender to chuck the post player coming across the lane longer. The Spurs caught on and skipped it to the weakside corner once for a 3. See More
