About This Play/Drill

Iowa State Head Coach Fred Hoiberg likes to use plays that create multiple scoring options at the rim and from the 3-point range. This 3 Guard Screen the Screener play is exactly what I am talking about.  Fred Hoiberg has always stressed proper spacing as a key component for offensive efficiency.  Since he took over the reins of the Iowa State program in 2010-2011.  ISU's offense have evolved around outstanding shooters who space the floor and make the extra pass to find the open man.

  • 1 passes to 4 at the elbow and then cuts to the wing.

     

    4 passes back to 1.

     

    3 moves inside of the 3 point line.

 

  • After passing to 1, 4 screens for 3.

     

    3 loops around 4 looking for a quick pass.

     

    If 3 isn't open, he continues to cut across the lane and sets a screen for 5.

     

    5 cuts to the low post.

     

    1 looks to pass to 5 for the score.

  • 4 then sets a screen for 3 who cuts up for a shot.
