Simply put a "throw & go" is passing to a big on the perimeter and chasing the pass to take a handoff.

1 passes to 5 (throw) and sprints (go) into the handoff from 5. X1 trail and 1 is able to get downhill after the handoff. 5 treats the handoff like a ball screen and rolls.

Here 1 passes to 5 and goes into the handoff but X1 goes under...

...1 takes the ball from 5 but has no advantage. 5 "twists" into the ball screen.

1 passes to 5 and X1 trails so tightly that they disrupt the handoff. 5 aborts the handoff. 1 curls around 5 to the basket and 5 dumps it over the top.
