Coach David Blatt uses a lot of match-up zone defenses in order to disrupt opponents' set plays. The 1-1-3 formation (or "T") match-up zone is the one he used while in Benetton Treviso (Italy) & Maccabi Tel-Aviv (Israel).
X2 switch with X1 on pick n' roll.
X3 relocates following 2.
X5 checks on 5's dive to the paint.
X1 faces 4 at the top.
On the ball swing, X1 follows 4 and X4 relocates in the paint.
X1 and X3 switch on side pick n' roll.
X5 match-up 5 when he cuts to high post area.
Side defense vs. single pick n' roll, X2 ready to stop 1's drive. X4 relocates between 3 and 4.
X5 checks on 5's dive to the paint, X2 & X4 help & recover. X3 relocates near the paint.
X5 plays 3/4 top defense vs 5 post-up, X3 relocates as last man (ready for a lob pass) & X1 controls pass back to top and skip pass to 2.
vs Choice set: X3 chases 2, while X5 pushes 5 outside the paint. X4 relocates in the paint, X1 gets near the FT line & X2 moves to weak side elbow.
vs side pick n' roll: X1 stops penetration of 2 & X3 switches on 5's roll.
X2 closes-out on the pass to 1, while X4 rotates to 3 getting over 4's attempt to screen. X5 relocates in the middle of the paint.
vs side pick n' roll & baseline cut: X4 initially follows 4 & then covers 5's baseline cut. X1 stops 2's penetration & X3 switches on 4's pop/roll
