Basketball Play - SLOB Pinch Cut

SLOB Pinch Cut

Michael Bowden 03/07/2013

This was a set that I saw 3 times within a 3 day period from an NBA team as well as a college basketball team. This is a great set to use if you have an athletic guard to throw the ball in, a 3 point shooter to bring to the corner and a high post who can be isolated at the elbow. See More

Basketball Play - Lilliard/Lopez Pick and Roll

Lilliard/Lopez Pick and Roll

Jeff Dow 02/17/2014

The Portland Trailblazers ran this set off the opening tip in their game vs. the Indiana Pacers on February 7, 2014. It takes advantage of Damian Lilliard's ability to execute coming off of an on/ball screen as well Robin Lopez's knack for finishing at the rim. Depending on how the play is defended it also includes options for a Wesley Matthew's corner 3 or a pass back to LaMarcus Aldrige for a face-up jumber from just inside the arc. See More

Basketball Play - 3FTC Stephen Curry Shooting Workout

3FTC Stephen Curry Shooting Workout

Greg White 05/02/2013

I saw Stephen Curry doing this before a game so we decided to make a drill out of it. This is a great drill because you (1) get conditioning and game type shots, (2) movement and (3) you can use both sides of the floor. We set the scoring as follows: The Shooter must make 3 3pt shots to complete the drill. They do not have to be in a row. Mid range Shots do not count as a make. Advanced: The Shooter must make 4/5 shots including the mid-range if they miss a 3pt shot. Expert: The Shooter must make 3 consecutive 3pt shots. See More

Basketball Play - 1 on 4 Alley Drill

1 on 4 Alley Drill

Kyle Gilreath 11/22/2013

This is a great drill I got from Florida State Assistant Stan Jones at a clinic he spoke at in the Fall. Many times when you do 1-on-1 alley drills with your team the defensive player becomes not as energetic half-way through the drill. This drill takes that factor out and makes the ball-handler beat four fresh defensive players in order to score. Once 1 and X4 finish the drill continues with a X1 becoming the new offensive player and X2 becomes the first defender in line; X3 becomes the new X2, X4 becomes the new X3, and the previous offensive player is now X4. Basketball Play - Post Figure 8 Drill

Post Figure 8 Drill

Kyle Gilreath 02/05/2014

This is a great drill that helps your post players improve on their footwork, hand-eye coordination, and finishing around the rim. Put 1 minute on the clock for this drill and have each player perform the drill 3 times. Elements to Emphasize: Staying low and wide Keeping hands up (goal post or H) Catch and score quickly See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Finishing

Michigan Finishing

Daniel Murphy 04/23/2013

Demonstrated by Michigan's John Beilein at a clinic. Great drill for first step explosion and finishing with contact and defensive pressure. 1 must explode past the defender in order to get 2 on his/her hip. Then finish strong at the rim. 2 should contest but not get in the habit of fouling. See More

Basketball Play - High Post Dive & Weak Side Seal Drill

High Post Dive & Weak Side Seal Drill

Randy Brown 02/18/2013

If you run the High-Low motion offnese, this drill is manatory. It combines several key skills; cutting, passing, sealing, offensive post moves, shooting, and weak side sealing. The key element is to teach the high post player to dive to the rim and dominate the weakside when the ball is entered to his teammate. In anticipation of the shot, the opposite post positions himself in a weakside seal to guarantee the rebound on a miss. This is a very competitive drill that will help your half court offense immensely. See More

Basketball Play - Backscreen Action

Backscreen Action

Scott Peterman 09/01/2012

Here is a back screen action play from the University of Kentucky provided by Men's Basketball HoopScoop. It has great backscreen action in it to spread the floor out for your point guard to attack. There are two options at the end for your point guard also. I think that you will enjoy. See More

Basketball Play - Floppy Chest

Floppy Chest

Stephen Gentry 08/31/2012

This set has good movement into ballscreen roll/replace action. Ball screen defensive schemes and the execution of those schemes have come a long way in recent years. Unless you have simply superior players it is becoming more and more difficult to be able to attack on the strongside straight into a ballscreen. Some of the most effective ballscreening teams in the NCAA are because they first have such great movement prior to the ballscreen even being set. The other reason for their effectiveness is because of the great spacing they have. Having movement is one thing but a lot times players become “cluttered” with their false movement and clog up driving lanes. As you put in plays continue to preach spacing. See More

Basketball Play - Motion

Motion

Kyle Gilreath 08/23/2013

Wichita State ran this action which ended with a pick & roll/replace in their Final Four matchup versus Louisville. As 1 came off the pick aggressively, the exchange by 4 and 5 allowed for an opportunity for 5 to seal his man for a lob over top. To see EVERY play Wichita State ran in the 2013 Final Four you can do so in my eBook Championship Execution! See More

Basketball Play - Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Circle Movement Shooting Drill

Coach Czes 11/01/2012

We run this combination drill for 10 minutes with half of the team on each end of the court, starting on the right side. We do 1:30 shot fake and drive, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, and 2:00 catch and shoot. Then we switch ENDS (they are now all on the left side of court) and work back down. 2:00 catch and shoot, 1:30 shot fake-escape dribble jumper, 1:30 shot fake and drive. We stress ball fakes before the pass, jump stop finishes, great closeouts, making great shot fakes, calling names out on passes, and covering ground with our dribble. See More

Basketball Play - Triangle Late Game

Triangle Late Game

Kyle Gilreath 05/23/2013

This is the play the Miami Heat ran last night to Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Finals versus the Indiana Pacers. The sports world and social media are a buzz about this play mostly because of Hibbert sitting out and George over playing. But let's give credit to Eric Spoelstra. He ran this same exact play at the end of the 4th quarter to get Ray Allen a game winning 3-pointer that came up short. With Hibbert out of the game this play really spread out the floor to open up the driving lane for Lebron to make the game winning lay-up. See More

Basketball Play - Quick Double

Quick Double

Kyle Gilreath 03/09/2013

Michigan State also ran this great half-court action Thursday night vs Wisconsin. Tim Izzo does a great job using different motions to get numerous results out of his plays. What I love about this play initially you get the defense so caught up on the backscreen that it makes it even more difficult to guard the stagger. See More

Basketball Play - Richard Pitino Motion Set

Richard Pitino Motion Set

Dana Beszczynski 04/15/2014

Richard Pitino took the University of Minnesota to the NIT Final where he was matched up against one of the true coaching legends of the game, SMU's Larry Brown. Brown was looking to be the first coach to win an NBA, NCAA, and NIT Championship. This is a great Motion Set vs a M2M defense incorporating the use of the down screen, back screen, and middle ball screen. The lob option off the back screen is a quick hit action and an effective swing of the ball off the ball screen can catch the defense opening up a possible post pass. See More
