Basketball Play - 5 CONTINUOUS GAME-LIKE FINISHING MOVES

5 CONTINUOUS GAME-LIKE FINISHING MOVES

Marc Skelton 10/27/2015

This continuous game-like finishing drill works on 5 different moves from 5 different spots on the floor. These moves can be attempted at different spots using left or right hands. This drill also helps develop footwork (pivots), rip through, and ball fakes. We name the moves after NBA players as it is easier to remember and embrace. Bonus:1) Add Euro step 2) Add a blocking pad to finish with contact. See More

Basketball Play - 5 Spot Finishing

5 Spot Finishing

Kyle Gilreath 07/04/2013

At Fort Myers High School we run the Read and React Offense from Better Basketball. If you are not familiar with the offense it consists of five spots that should always be filled. If your defenders feet are above the three point line (Read Line) and you are one pass away we tell our players to immediately cut back door. With that in mind this morning I put a couple of our guys through a grueling session of finishing moves which incorporates this concept. When finishing from the sides I like to teach my players to get their shoulders parallel with the baseline to product themselves and the ball from a defender. See More

Basketball Play - Michigan Finishing

Michigan Finishing

Dan Murphy 04/23/2013

Demonstrated by Michigan's John Beilein at a clinic. Great drill for first step explosion and finishing with contact and defensive pressure. 1 must explode past the defender in order to get 2 on his/her hip. Then finish strong at the rim. 2 should contest but not get in the habit of fouling. See More

Basketball Play - Transition 1 v 1

Transition 1 v 1

Jordan Petersen 06/26/2017

Transition offense is a huge part of the game. In this game like shooting drill, players will be working on scoring in transition. A defensive player will be closing out on the offense in the corner. The offensive player will have to read the defender to see if they should shoot it or drive it. See More

Basketball Play - Villanova Pressure Release & Finish Drill

Villanova Pressure Release & Finish Drill

Mike Shaughnessy 06/05/2017

Villanova is known for being a very fundamentally sound basketball team. They do a tremendous job of valuing the ball (1.4 Asst./TO Ratio) and finish around the rim at a high percentage (66% avg. past 2 years). This is a drill that the men's basketball team does in practice throughout the year to work on getting open versus pressure, working on their triple threat (pivots, jabs), and finishing strong around the basket. Basketball Play - Drill Progression - Crossover Step

Drill Progression - Crossover Step

Randy Sherman 05/05/2017

An example of "phasing" a drill focusing on a simple fundamental - the crossover step and finishing at the rim - and making it game like in the final phase. NOTE: Phase C is omitted because it would look the same as Phase B excpet that X1 could touch either cone after the flip. Thus it has a live element for Player 1 would not know what crossover step to use beforehand. For help with phase planning your drills.... See More
