Basketball Play - Miami Heat "35 Slice"

Miami Heat "35 Slice"

Brandon Mullis 11/05/2015

At the end of the 2nd quarter of their final preseason game against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Miami Heat ran this set to Gerald Green to get to the rim for a wide open lay-up. Green came off the wing ball screen attacking the rim, but also had options to pass to a cutting Josh McRoberts or shooters on the perimeter spotting up. This is really good action for an end of shot clock or end of quarter type of set, to get one of your best penetrators and athletes attacking the rim, or if the defense collapses on penetration, a kick out for an open 3-pointer. Basketball Play - Washington Wizards "Special"

Washington Wizards "Special"

Brandon Mullis 09/03/2015

The Washington Wizards were tied with the Orlando Magic with 0.8 seconds remaining last December. After calling a timeout, Coach Randy Wittman drew up this SLOB set designed to get one of his better shooters (not named Bradley Beal) coming off a quick screen and then slice to the corner to clear out the help and the lane area to open up the rim. Beal, the athlete/dunker in this set, simultaneously comes off a screen from a big and then rolls back to the rim for the game winning lob lay in. See More

Basketball Play - Boston Celtics "Flip Flare"

Boston Celtics "Flip Flare"

Gibson Pyper 09/01/2015

A set that Brad Stevens runs after time outs and at the end of games is "Flip Flare." This set is designed to create action before a flare screen for a stretch 4 like Jared Sullinger or Kelly Olynyk. After setting a down screen and then opening up to the ball, the 4 man flips it back to 1, this is especially effective against teams that ICE ballscreens, as his defender will be below the flare screen. After he flips it this is when the other big sets flare screen, looking for a quick hitter. See More

Basketball Play - Virginia Tech Corner Flare

Virginia Tech Corner Flare

Brandon Mullis 08/30/2015

Virginia Tech ran this SLOB set late in the game against Boston College this past season. The shooter was the second man in triple staggered screens/Iverson cut for the wing. The shooter then received a back screen to flare to the corner upon the baseline drive. He was wide open in the corner and knocked down the shot to pull his team within one possession with about 1 minute left to play in regulation. See More

Basketball Play - Phoenix Suns ATO Box Clear

Phoenix Suns ATO Box Clear

Brandon Mullis 08/29/2015

On April 2, 2015 of this past season, the Phoenix Suns were down one point with 6.8 seconds remaining on the road at the Golden State Warriors. The Suns ran a brilliant ATO SLOB quick hitting set to clear out the weak side and get an open lay-up for Eric Bledsoe. The Warriors did not switch any of the screens. Instead, the Warriors chased/trailed the screens, allowing the weak side to be cleared out and Bledsoe to curl in for the go-ahead lay-up (however, the Warriors would eventually hit a game winning shot at the buzzer). Basketball Play - Triangle and 2 Quick Hitter "Under

Triangle and 2 Quick Hitter "Under

Rory Hamilton 08/02/2015

"Under" looks to give you several different scoring options out of one play against a triange and 2 defense. The initial alignment is a 1-4 high with one of your guarded players at the point and the other at either the left or right-wing. The play starts with a pass to the high post player on the same sided as the other player being guarded man to man. The post catches and faces while strong side elbow and wing player set a double flare screen for the point guard for a potential quick shot. If the shot is not there the 3 player flashes to the block for potential low post pass if bottom triangle defender comes out. The 5 player then sprints to the wing for a PNR while the 2 and 4 player set a weak side double screen for the 3 man. The point guard comes off the PNR and looks to score, hit the post rolling or 3 player along the baseline. Once the 3 player catches along the baseline, the 4 man slides to mid post and the 2 man continues cut and sets a screen on the bottom defender bringing the 5 man right "under" the basket for a score.
