About This Play/Drill

Use this drill to train all your players to make decisions in the lane. Everyone is a post player based on their location on the court, not necessarily their position. This drill trains cutters and post players alike to react to dribble penetration and knock down shots.

  • Basketball Play - Dr. Dish Post Shift Shooting

  • Location - 2 & 18

    Tempo - 3 (dish will rotate and take at least 3-4 seconds to get to the other side)

    Number of Balls Per Location - 2

     

    First player in line will receive a pass and shoot it. They'll receive a second pass and swing it from the corner to the wing.

     

    Player who passed will cut and post up on the mid-post. Great time to work on posting hard and strong.

  • Player on the wing with the ball rips it and drives it immediately toward the baseline. The Dish will have rotated to the other side at this point to continue the drill.

     

    The posting player will post shift to the high post and receive a hook pass for the shot.

  • Post shift down:

     

    Same initial action, except the receiving player will drive middle to have the post player slide to the short corner.
